Hi. We want to welcome each & everyone of
you to our website. Chinchilla Estates
consists of my husband-Ricke, my daughter-
Petra & myself-Jane. Oh yeah, and let's not
forget our herd of about 60 chinchillas.
It all began many years ago when my Dad
took me to a zoo somewhere in Massachusetts.
That was the first time I had ever seen a
chinchilla. Such a wonderful, unique looking
animal. That awesome sight and the urge to
learn all about them stayed in the back of my
mind for many years to come.
Throughout time, I saw more of them and hoped
that someday I would own one (imagine! Just
one!) I didn't care what color. In fact, I
didn't know for many years that so many colors
existed.
Well, as time went on, I
married my husband, Ricke. Had and raised our
children. Never forgetting about chinchillas.
When you are raising a family, there are too many
needs to be able to afford wants.
I learned all I could about them hoping someday
I would actually own one. I wanted so much
to care for a real live chinchilla. Well, 2 1/2
years ago, I purchased my first chin
from a private party who posted an ad in the
newspaper. His name is "Nikki". I call him
"my lil Nikki guy". He is the chin pictured.
He is a standard gray about 800 grams in weight
and is just full of himself. King of Chinchilla
Estates.
So, there it is in a nutshell.
My husband is very involved helping with all
kinds of things necessary for their needs.
My daughter now has "chin fever". She is very
involved in their care and has a large portion
of the herd at her home. The rest is at our home.
When I told my husband about my purchase,
he said, "a what?" I never knew in 26 years
of marriage to you that you ever wanted one
of those!!" After that, he bought me every
color we could find from reputable breeders.
So, there you have the evolution of Chinchilla
Estates.
